Estimator
Some estimators crunch numbers. You build the job before it ever breaks ground.
Delphi is a fast-growing heavy mechanical contractor delivering public infrastructure across NYC: wastewater systems, pump stations, utility piping, and complex municipal upgrades. Our team runs lean. Our bids are sharp. And now, we’re hiring a full-time Estimator to lead the charge into new agency work.
This is not a takeoff support role. This is your bid to own the estimating process, from scope reviews and pricing strategy to subcontractor/vendor coordination and margin protection. You’ll be the one turning incomplete drawings and complex specs into clean, confident bids that win.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Own quantity takeoffs, pricing, and bid package development for $5M–$25M+ public works projects
- Replace executive involvement in day-to-day estimating
- Evaluate labor production, material pricing, and subcontractor scope gaps
- Coordinate directly with PMs, vendors, subcontractors and superintendents to ground bids in field reality
- Track historical GP accuracy and improve estimating precision over time
- Shape project mix by preparing bids for DEP, DASNY, NYCHA, SCA, and other NYC public agencies
- Support and enforce Delphi’s Go/No-Go SOP for strategic bidding
- Lead the internal handoff process after award to ensure alignment between bid, budget, and build
Must-Haves
- 5+ years of experience estimating public works or heavy mechanical scopes
- Experience with NYC/NYS agency bid procedures (DEP, DASNY, NYCHA, SCA)
- Strong takeoff, unit pricing, and labor forecasting skills
- Proficient with Bluebeam, Excel, HCSS, and public bid tabulation workflows
- Able to interpret contract documents, labor requirements, and vendor scopes
- Clear communicator—written, verbal, and numeric
- Strong sense of ownership and urgency
Nice-to-Haves
- Field or project management background (APM, PE, or Foreman-to-office transition)
- JOC estimating experience
- Familiarity with MWBE, compliance, and public contract packaging
- Experience coordinating with trades, subcontractors, long lead vendors, and field leadership to ground bids in execution reality
- Past success diversifying project types or client mix
- Experience managing a team
Compensation & Benefits
- Base Salary: $125,000–$175,000 - commensurate with experience
- Performance bonus based on awarded volume, margin accuracy, and project mix targets
- Benefits: Health insurance, vision, retirement plan
- Additional Benefits: Paid Time Off (PTO), 401(k) Match, Annual Training Stipend, Growth plan toward Precon Lead

At Delphi, every job operates like its own business.
We’re building a company that will scale to $100M in revenue across multiple regions—and that requires people who can take ownership, execute at a high level, and grow into leadership.

- Track project schedules, milestones, and deliverables
- Support billing (pencil copies, requisitions, backup documentation)
- Coordinate subcontractor and vendor documentation

- Ensure compliance with contract and agency requirements
This role sits at the center of project execution.
What Success Looks Like

- Strong follow-up and ownership mindset
- Able to manage multiple workflows simultaneously
- Comfortable working between field and office teams
- Proficient in Excel and willing to learn new systems
What We’re Looking For (Non-Negotiables)
- You take responsibility for outcomes—not just tasks
- You follow up until things are done
- You stay organized under pressure
- You understand (or are eager to learn) construction documentation
This is not a fit if:
- You are reactive instead of proactive
- You struggle with organization or follow-through
- You don’t want accountability
Career Growth at Delphi
This is a deliberate entry point into project leadership.
- 12–24 months → APM II (independent workflows)
- 24–48 months → Project Manager track

You will grow through:
- Structured career path framework

- Real exposure to complex public infrastructure work
- Clear path to lead your own projects (P&L responsibility)
